Elena Gilbert
Portrayed by Nina Dobrev, Elena Gilbert is the series' protagonist. Suffering from the recent loss of her parents Elena finds comfort in Stefan Salvatore, a vampire. As she is drawn to him she realizes that she also shares feelings for Stefan's malevolent brother Damon. Elena soon discovers that she is the doppelgänger of Katherine Pierce, a evil vampire that shared her love for the brothers century ago.
